The Canes lost 4-1 to the Utah Hockey Club despite putting up 50 shots on goal

The Carolina Hurricanes lost for the fourth time this season, falling 4-1 to the Utah Hockey Club Wednesday night despite a 50-shot performance.

The Canes had a strong start to the game and found an equalizer thanks to Martin Necas who extended his point streak to 11, but a poor third period start and a fruitless 10+ minutes of power play time in the final frame sunk the team.

After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour spoke with the media in Utah. Here's what he had to say:

On the third period: They got a couple quick ones in three of four minutes. I don't even think it was bad, we just let them get some chances and they all went in. That's just the way it went. Their goalie was obviously the story. We definitely had enough scoring opportunities, but we kind of had that little lull there for a couple of minutes and that cost us.

On the power play: I mean, you have to give him credit. He made some big saves, but we kind of butchered that if we're being honest. 5-on-3, you can't hold onto the puck like that. I don't know. We just did some uncharacteristic things there, but at that point it was 4-1 so that wasn't the game. The game was that little segment where we let them get some opportunities and like we said, they cashed them in.

On if he had an update on Pyotr Kochetkov who appeared to be injured in the third period: No. I'm hoping that he's alright, but I haven't even checked on him yet. He got banged up there. I don't know yet.
