Andrei Svechnikov to Miss Time Following MRI

Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour told the media today in Ottawa that forward Andrei Svechnikov was absent from practice due to getting an MRI done.

"Svech went to get an MRI here," Brind'Amour said. "I don't really know what's going on there."

Svechnikov has missed the last two games due to what the team is designating an upper-body injury.

While there is no confirmation on where the injury is located or what occurred to cause it, one theory is the cross check that Svechnikov received from Logan Stanley against the Winnipeg Jets on Dec. 4.

Svechnikov did play in the Canes' next game following that blow, logging over 18 minutes in a loss to the Edmonton Oilers, but he would not play in the following one after that.

It's been a tough year for Svechnikov, who has one goal and 11 points in 16 games this season, as the forward already missed the entirety of last year's playoffs as well as the first eight games of this season after tearing his ACL.

The Hurricanes are winless in their last four games and losing Svechnikov for any considerable length of time would be a huge blow to the team.
