'I Think We Avoided The Worst': Seth Jarvis Exits Game Against Kings With Apparent Injury
UPDATE: Following the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour stated that Seth Jarvis "looks all right" and that the team feels they "avoided the worst" in terms of his injury status. "First off, that's not what you want to see, especially in a game like that where there's just nothing going on," Brind'Amour said. "We're just trying to get through it at that point. I think he looks actually all right. I don't want to say, because you never know when you wake up the next day, but I think we avoided the worst. We move on." Carolina Hurricanes winger Seth Jarvis exited the team's Saturday afternoon game against the LA Kings early with what appeared to be a head injury. Jarvis went hard into the endwall after Kings forward Warren Foegele bodied him down as the Canes forward attempted to power around him on a shorthanded chance early in the third period. Jarvis went down in front of the Kings net, but his momentum carried him into the boards, where his head slammed into the wall after his initial impact. The forward was in noticeable discomfort on the ice, but was able to skate off to the locker room under his own power. At this time, there's no more information on Jarvis' status, but we'll provide an update should one become available. Jordan Staal, Shayne Gostisbehere, Andrei Svechnikov All Out Of Hurricanes Lineup Against LA Kings
The Carolina Hurricanes will be without captain Jordan Staal and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere tonight as they take on the LA Kings. Staal, 36, is Carolina's go-to shutdown center and an integral piece of their penalty kill. He also has 12 goals and 33 points this season, averaging 15:27 per game. According to the team, he is dealing with a lower-body injury and coach Rod Brind'Amour insinuated it was due to a blocked shot on Thursday. Gostisbehere, 31, is the Hurricanes' top power play quarterback and the leading blueliner scorer on the team with seven goals and 38 points. According to the team, he is out with illness and per Rod Brind'Amour on the pre-game broadcast, it's apparently going through the room too just like earlier in the year. Andrei Svechnikov will also miss a fifth consecutive game tonight too as he continues to work his way back to a return. In their places, Juha Jaaska and Scott Morrow will draw into the lineup against LA. Here's how the team will lineup according to team reporter Walt Ruff: Seth Jarvis - Sebastian Aho - Jackson BlakeTaylor Hall - Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Jack RoslovicJordan Martinook - Mark Jankowski - Eric RobinsonJuha Jaaska - Tyson Jost - Logan StankovenJaccob Slavin - Brent BurnDmitry Orlov - Jalen ChatfieldSean Walker - Scott MorrowPyotr Kochetkov Stay updated with the most interesting Carolina Hurricanes stories, analysis, breaking news and more! Andrei Svechnikov Working Toward Return For Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov looks to be nearing a return to the lineup. The Russian winger was knocked out of the game against the Winnipeg Jets on March 9 after absorbing an awkward hit, and has since missed the past three games for the Canes. However, Svechnikov returned to the ice on Monday, skating on his own and working with assistant coach Jeff Daniels for about a half hour before the team practice later that morning. He then took the ice again Tuesday for around an hour at a very limited optional skate, so the signs are at least promising for the 24-year-old forward to make the upcoming road trip. "We'll find it," said Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour. "We have a couple more days and then we'll see where he's at. Obviously if he doesn't practice with us then that will be an indicator that he probably won't, but he tried it out this morning so he's getting better." While no clarity on his injury has been made public, Brind'Amour did state that it was not a concussion. The Hurricanes will hold one more full team practice on Wednesday before they fly out to San Jose for a game against the Sharks on Thursday. Pair Of Carolina Hurricanes Russians Out Versus Detroit Red Wings
The Carolina Hurricanes will once again be without Andrei Svechnikov and Dmitry Orlov as the Canes take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight. Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour confirmed pre-game that neither Russian will suit up. "I thought Orlov could probably play today, but I think it's just wise to wait until he's 100%," Brind'Amour said. "Svech was still not feeling great and hasn't practiced. I would hope next week, but I don't know." Svechnikov will be missing a second straight game after sustaining an upper-body injury against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. The winger has 18 goals and 43 points in 63 games this season. Orlov will be missing a fourth straight game due to a "minor injury." The defenseman has been practicing with the team and Brind'Amour stated that he should be "right around the corner," but it's just a holding pattern for now. Neither player is anticipated to be out long-term. Stay updated with the most interesting Carolina Hurricanes stories, analysis, breaking news and more! Andrei Svechnikov, Dmitry Orlov Not Considered Long-Term Absences From Carolina Hurricanes Lineup
The Carolina Hurricanes aren't expecting either forward Andrei Svechnikov nor defenseman Dmitry Orlov to be out long-term with their respective injuries. Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour was asked about Svechnikov's status at practice on Thursday, where the Russian was notably absent. "He was out here in street clothes today," Brind'Amour said. "Said he's feeling better but obviously not ready to go."    When asked if he thinks it will be a long-term absence: "I didn't anticipate it to be," Brind'Amour said. "Same with Orly. He practiced today and I think Orly has a better chance of playing." The Hurricanes play the Detroit Red Wings Friday night and both players will be game-time decisions. Orlov, 33, has missed the team's past three games with a minor injury, although he's been practicing with the team since. The Russian blueliner has four goals and 24 points in 62 games this season. Rookie Scott Morrow has been playing in his place. Svechnikov, 24, has missed one game since sustaining an apparent upper-body injury late in the team's game against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. The Russian forward has 18 goals and 43 points in 63 games this season. In his place, Tyson Jost has drawn back into the lineup.
