    The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they have hired Daniel Bochner as a development coach.

    Bochner, 38, had been a development coach in the KHL since 2018-19 working primarily with SKA St. Petersburg, the club of Hurricanes' top prospect Alexander Nikishin as well as top Russian prospect Matvei Michkov, but was also promoted to assistant coach with the team in 2020-2021.

    Bochner brings a wealth of development experience to the organization having also served as the Director of Player Development and Head Player Development Coach for the Russian Ice Hockey Federation from 2018-2022 on top of his role with SKA St. Petersburg.

    With so many Russian prospects in the system, it makes sense for Carolina to have a coach with experience working in Russia and with Russian players and who better than one of the top guys in the KHL and the guy most closely working with their top prospect too.

    The Hurricanes were in the market for a new development coach after Sergei Samsonov's, who had worked for Carolina as a development coach from 2015-2023, contract expired earlier in the offseason.

    ‘CANES HIRE DANIEL BOCHNER AS DEVELOPMENT COACH

    Bochner has worked in player development with SKA St. Petersburg and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation since 2018-19

    RALEIGH, N.C. – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has hired Daniel Bochner as a development coach.

    Bochner, 38, has spent the past five seasons with SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He has served as a development coach for SKA and its system affiliates since 2018-19, and he was named one of the team’s assistant coaches in 2020-21. Bochner also previously served as the Director of Player Development and Head Player Development Coach for the Russian Ice Hockey Federation from 2018-22 and served as an assistant coach at the IIHF World Championship in 2021. The Toronto native began his coaching career in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), with the Don Mills Flyers from 2013-16 and the Vaughan Kings in 2017-18. Bochner is also the founder and CEO of Universal Hockey, a training academy in Toronto that focuses on elite player development both on and off the ice.
