The Carolina Hurricanes selected Russian winger Alexander Rykov with the 100th overall pick.

Rykov has two years left on his contract with Chelyabinsk, but that just gives him some more time to develop in the second-best league in the world.

The forward is a bit of a mystery package being that he missed time last season due to an injury on top of viewings in Russian being mostly limited.

However, the Hurricanes see a lot of potential upside with his skating, shot and overall offensive instincts.

Here's what scouts told The Hockey News about Rykov:
"He's a smart player who can play offensively and defensively. He has a good shot and good speed."

"He can score. Before January, he had some really good games in the VHL. One game, he took the puck from coast-to-coast and cut to the middle and scored a really great goal."

"He's got skill, and he can skate. But he's got a long way to go."
