Carolina Hurricanes Shake Up Defense at Practice, Jalen Chatfield on Third Pair, Jaccob Slavin Rotating in on PP1
It seems that Rod Brind'Amour has once again reached his limit with his defense's lapses.
After a few games of subpar performances, the third pair of Dmitry Orlov and Tony DeAngelo was broken up after the first period of Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins following another blown assignment on a goal against.
For the remainder of the game, Dmitry Orlov ended up paired with Brett Pesce and Brady Skjei was with Tony DeAngelo, but Skjei and Pesce still wound up back together more often that not for key moments.
Following the game, Brind'Amour was asked about the third pair.
"Gotta keep trying, right?," Brind'Amour said. "We've got good ones back there, but it's just about finding the chemistry and the fit. That might be a little bit of a work in progress, but we'll keep at it."
Well, we got a glimpse at that work in progress at Monday's practice.
During the morning practice, it appeared that Jalen Chatfield had swapped back in on the third pair alongside Orlov, with DeAngelo rotating in as a healthy extra.
It makes sense that DeAngelo would be the odd-man out after he had a few turnovers on the power play and the first goal against on Saturday came at the hands of his assignment.
However, DeAngelo was still rotating in with PP1 during practice, although so to was Jaccob Slavin.
So Slavin PP1 QB anybody?
