Per Carolina Hurricanes team reporter Walt Ruff, the Canes have signed defenseman Nathan Beaulieu to a professional tryout.
The 30-year old defensemen has played for four teams over an 11 year career and most recently played for the Anaheim Ducks last year.
The 2011 first-round pick had four assists in 52 games last season and has a career stat line of 12 goals and 98 points in 471 games.
Beaulieu is a big bodied, left-handed defenseman, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 205 pounds, although he's seen his on-ice results tank as of late despite mostly playing in a depth role.
His analytics don't look much better either...
Regardless, the PTO brings the running total of NHL defensemen that will attend the Hurricanes' training camp to 10, which again, begs the question: Is something going to give?
Perhaps this move is just to bring additional bodies into training camp or maybe the Canes are planning on doing something with all these defensemen.
Who knows and we still have a month or so left to continue to speculate. Oh, what fun.
