According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet and Pierre LeBrun of TSN, the Carolina Hurricanes have signed free-agent netminder Aaron Dell to a professional tryout.

This is the second goalie PTO the Canes have brought in this season as Jaroslav Halak was brought in last month for a bit before the two sides agreed to part ways after Halak refused an AHL assignment.

The move is predicated by the fact that the Hurricanes placed goaltender Antti Raanta on waivers on Saturday and reassigned him to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL once he cleared on Sunday.

Currently, Carolina only has Pyotr Kochetkov, who's played well, and Yaniv Perets, who just got called up from the ECHL, on their roster and with Frederik Andersen still out due to blood-clotting issues, the Hurricanes are just one more disaster away from a real emergency.

Dell could provide that additional security, at least for a little while.

The 34-year-old veteran netminder has appeared in 130 NHL games across seven seasons with three teams (San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres) and has a career save percentage of 0.905 and GAA of 2.92.

He most recently played in the NHL in the 2022-23 season, appearing in four games with the Sharks where he put up a 0.913 save percentage.
