The Carolina Hurricanes announced today that they have trimmed their training camp roster down from 44 players to 30.
The six players still on PTOs were all released, which includes Zach Aston-Reese, Kieffer Bellows, Cory Conacher, Brendan Perlini, Nick Shore and Nathan Beaulieu.
Jayden Halbgewachs was released from his PTO one day earlier.
Another move included the placing of defenseman Caleb Jones on waivers.
The 26-year-old defenseman appeared in three preseason games for Carolina and had a goal, 5 hits, 5 shots and was a -2 in 20:09 of average ice time.
Last season, Jones had four goals and 16 points in 73 games with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Jones signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Hurricanes this summer and if he passes through waivers, he can be reassigned to the AHL on a loan and his salary will not count against the Canes' cap hit.
In terms of reassignments, Noel Gunler, Blake Murray, Justin Robidas, Anttoni Honka, Griffin Mendel and Ronan Seeley were all assigned to the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL.
Jamieson Rees was assigned to the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL — the St. Louis Blue's affiliate.
Finally, Aleksi Heimosalmi was assigned to Assat of Liiga in Finland.
The Hurricanes' roster now comprises 16 forwards, 10 defensemen and four goaltenders.
In terms of players we could still see reassigned: forwards Ryan Suzuki, Vasily Ponomarev and Felix Unger Sorum; defenseman Domenick Fensore and goaltenders Pyotr Kochetkov and Yaniv Perets all remain with the main group.
