According to team reporter Walt Ruff, the Carolina Hurricanes have reassigned Vasiliy Ponomarev, Domenick Fensore, Griffin Mendel and Ronan Seeley to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.

Ponomarev, played two games with the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL and Fensore (9gp, 2g, 8a), Mendel (8gp, 3g, 3a) and Seeley (11gp, 0g, 3a) had been playing with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL.

The Hurricanes still have Yaniv Perets, Justin Robidas and Blake Murray down with Norfolk at this time.

While the split up seemed to be a bit messy at the time, the Wolves went independent and the Hurricanes were left without an AHL affiliate, it seems that both sides have managed to find a compromise in the end.

With Chicago off to a poor 1-6-1-1 start, they knew they needed to bring in some higher caliber players, but there really wasn't a good path forward for them with just AHL free agents.

Carolina meanwhile, knew that a good amount of their guys were too good to be playing in the ECHL, but assigning them to other AHL teams would just see them buried in those lineups.

So in the end, it's a win-win situation for everyone as the Canes prospects should be afforded significant playing time because the Wolves only priority is winning and not developing someone else's players.
