The Carolina Hurricanes have allowed their right to prospect Kevin Wall to expire after a contract wasn't offered by the August 15 deadline.
Wall, 23, had spent the past four seasons at Penn State and finished his NCAA career with 43 goals and 86 points which puts him ninth and tenth all-time in Nittany Lions history respectively.
The 2019 sixth-round pick is perhaps the latest casualty of the Hurricanes lack of an AHL affiliate following the Chicago Wolves announcement that they wanted to go independent following the conclusion of their contract with Carolina.
Without anywhere for these depth players to go and develop, it makes no sense for the Hurricanes to offer a contract to these players who potentially have nowhere to play.
The Hurricanes only signed a single player whose rights were expiring this offseason - Justin Robidas - and unless an affiliate can be figured out for next season, that trend may continue.
