The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 Wednesday night at TD Gardens thanks to the late-game heroics of Jordan Martinook who scored the go-ahead goal on a breakaway with 2:27 left in the game.

It was Martinook's fifth goal in his last six games and brings him up to six since the start of the new year.

After the game, the NHL on TNT broadcast interviewed Martinook along with a special guest, his mom Wendy.

The Hurricanes were also hosting the players' moms as part of their Moms Trip, so it all worked out for the perfect moment.

On what the moment was like for her: [Wendy] Oh, it's awesome. It's like a dream come true every time you watch your kid play in the NHL.

On where Jordan got his social skills from: [Wendy] I'm going to take credit for this. I'm pretty good. I have some good social skills and so yeah. I'm going to take credit for it. He got it from me.

On what his mom was like growing up: [Jordan] I couldn't ask for a better support. She was... I'm going to get choked up. Honestly, this woman has done everything for me and my sister. Just can't thank her enough. She's been at every game, every practice, early mornings. Obviously all the moms here, they support us, but I got a special one.

On if he tried to go five-hole on his game-winning goal: No, no, no. When I looked up, I kind of saw that he was off the net a little bit. I felt I had a lot of the glove side. As soon as I looked up, I saw that he was off-center and tried to shoot quick. I wanna say I was going low-glove, but I'll leave that to mystery.

On her pride for her son's ability to battle through adversity: [Wendy] Oh my gosh, I'm so proud of him. You just work hard and you'll get rewarded and he never stops. He works hard. Just so proud.

On the plans for tonight: [Wendy] Well the plane ride is going to be better.

[Jordan] Fly home and another one tomorrow. We're excited and we'll have the moms there tomorrow night in the box. Keep this thing rolling and hopefully get the moms four points.

    [Wendy] The moms are awesome!
