Carolina Hurricanes forward Teuvo Teravainen had a bounce back season this year, potting a career high 25 goals along with 53 points in the regular season.

The Finnish winger also had two goals and six points in 11 postseason games.

Teravainen has been an essential part of the team's core for the past eight seasons, but now with the expiration of his current contract, his future is uncertain.

The Canes held their first round of exit interviews on Saturday following the conclusion of their 2023-24 season which ended after losing in six games to the New York Rangers in the second round of the playoffs.

Here's what Teravainen had to say:

On if he'd like to stay in Carolina: Of course. I've had such a good time here with all these people and the team's been awesome. Everything is good here so hopefully I can stay. You never know. It's kind of a new situation for me right now.

On if had any extension negotiations during the season: Yeah, but not too much. Just kind of talked and said let's see after the season how it's going to be.

On his season: I felt pretty good actually. I was healthier this year, it was kind of fun to play and I enjoyed the games and felt like I was playing pretty good. I felt like I can always play better and always get better even though I'm almost 30. Getting older, I guess, but I feel like I can still get better and play good for many more years. Just going to have a good offseason again and be better next year.

On turning around from last season: The year before wasn't great. I had some injuries and I wasn't feeling that good on the ice, I guess. But this year, I felt like I got back on the right track.

On Rod Brind'Amour: He's helped a lot for sure. Been here together for a long time now and as a player I feel like I've been taking the next steps for sure and he's been helping me through that.

On if he'll start shooting more after putting up a career high in goals: Yeah, I don't know. It's really hard to say. Sometimes the puck just goes in even though I'm trying to pass or something. I'm sure I'll still look for the passes but it's good to see that the puck goes in sometimes too.

On potentially seeing a few core pieces leave this offseason: We've had such a special group. The core here has been together for a long time and we knew that our chance was really this year to be really good. I think we played well, but it just didn't go our way. It's going to hurt the feelings for a long time for sure.
