The NHL roster freeze due to the Olympic break hit at 2 PM CT. Right at the buzzer, the New York Rangers traded former Chicago Blackhawks standout Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings. Going back to the Rangers is Liam Greentree and a conditional 3rd round pick.

New York enters the break in last place in the Eastern Conference. They sent out a memo that they were going to trade some familiar faces in an effort to rebuild for the future. Panarin is the first to go.

With the Rangers this season, Panarin has 19 goals and 38 assists for 57 points in 52 games played. He joins a Kings team that is one point below the playoff line and is trying to make a push in Anze Kopitar's last season.

No extension is in place for Panarin, but he wanted to go there, so they got it done. They are allowed to get an extension done during the break.

Details on the conditions of the draft pick can be found in the post below:

UPDATE: An extension came in with the Panarin trade. It is a two-year deal with an AAV of $11 million for Los Angeles and Panarin.
