Connor Bedard will be back on the ice on Saturday, skating for Team Canada when it takes on Great Britain in its opener at the IIHF World Championship in Prague, Czechia. Puck drop is at 12:20 p.m. local time, so 6:20 a.m. ET and 5:20 a.m. CT.

Bedard will wear a jersey, No. 98, with a maple leaf crest for the first time since leading Canada to a IIHF World Junior Championship in January 2023. The NHL's leading rookie scorer with 22 goals and 61 points in 2023-24, Bedard was named the IIHF's 2023 Male Player of the Year after putting up a record 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) in seven games in the 2022-23 WJC tournament in Atlantic Canada.
At the 16-team 2024 IIHF World Championship, the 18-year-old Bedard is the youngest player on a Canadian squad made up entirely of NHL players whose teams are out of the playoffs.
On Friday, Blackhawks defensemen Seth Jones and Alex Vlasic played for Team USA in its 5-2 loss to Sweden.
Paired most of the season on the Blackhawks, Jones and Vlasic didn't skate together on Friday as the Americans trailed all the way in Ostrava, Czechia. Jones, fourth in the NHL last season with an average of 25:29 of ice time per game, had 21:15 of work against Sweden.
Jones assisted on Zach Werenski's goal. Those two D-men played together in this one as they did in the NHL with Columbus several years ago.
Vlasic, skating in his first world championships, played 13:21 and had an assist on Brock Nelson's goal.
Philipp Kurashev, Bedard's linemate in Chicago for most of 2023-24, had an assist for Switzerland in its 5-2 win over Norway. He played 15:46 on 22 shifts.
Petr Mrazek wasn't in nets for Czechia's 1-0 shootout win over Finland at the Prague Arena. Lukas Dostal, of the Anaheim Ducks, stopped 21 shots through overtime and four more in the tiebreaker of the featured contest that started at 8:20 p.m. local time.
Lukas Reichel didn't play for Germany in its 6-4 win over Slovakia. He was still traveling after skating for the Rockford IceHogs, who were eliminated from the AHL playoffs on Sunday.
