Which teams could sign Ilya Mikheyev if he hits the market next week?

With the start of free agency less than one week away, Ilya Mikheyev has still not signed a contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks. With that, there is a good chance that he could hit the free agent market on July 1.

Mikheyev is coming off a strong season with Chicago, as he posted 18 goals and recorded a career-high 36 points in 77 games. With this, he would be a popular target if he ends up testing free agency.

If the Blackhawks are unable to re-sign Mikheyev by the start of free agency, these two teams stand out as potential landing spots for the two-way winger.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks have plenty of skilled forwards, but they could use another defensive forward who also provides some offense in their top nine. Because of this, they could be a team to keep an eye on with Mikheyev if he tests free agency. He would be a good fit on an exciting Sharks team that is on the rise.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets could also be another team to watch when it comes to Mikheyev. If they lose pending UFA winger Mason Marchment, they could be on the hunt for another winger. With Mikheyev being among this year's best pending UFA wingers, he could be a player the Blue Jackets pivot to if situation comes to fruition.
