The Blackhawks select Spellacy who finished his season with Windsor on a high note.

The Chicago Blackhawks selected Anthony (AJ) Spellacy with the 72nd pick in the 2024 NHL draft.

This two-sport athlete is considered a sleeper pick in the draft. Spellacy has the ability to beat defenders in multiple ways as the 6-foot-3 forward is considered a dynamic player.

While being considered a sleeper in the draft, he was selected right around where many pre-draft rankings had him. Spellacy is one of the fastest players in the 2024 draft class and has great acceleration. His work ethic is also top tier.

Spellacy's size, combined with his physical nature, makes him a unique player. He is able to strip the puck from opponents and uses his physicality to defend well in his own end down low and on the boards.

The production by Spellacy got better over the course of the season after a slow start, but he finished up the year with 21 goals and 38 points in 67 games. It might take a little bit of time to put everything together, but next season will be a big one to see if he can build upon the strong finish to 2023-24.
