The Chicago Blackhawks' scheduled Wednesday night game against the Sabres in Buffalo, New York, has been postponed by the NHL until Thursday at 7 p.m. because of projected heavy snow and travel restrictions in the area.
The Blackhawks were able to leave Chicago following their 2-1, nine-round shootout win over San Jose on Tuesday. According to the flight tracking app Flightradar24, the team's chartered Boeing 737 landed at Buffalo Niagara International Airport at 2:31 a.m. local time.
The Blackhawks-Sabres game was scheduled to be broadcast by TNT in the United States. Instead, a contest between the Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers from Sunrise, Florida will be available on the network on Wednesday night.
The Blackhawks topped San Jose at the United Center on Tuesday behind goalie Petr Mrazek, who made 37 saves through overtime, then eight more in the shootout. The 31-year-old Czech goalie is enjoying a resurgent season after being dogged by groin injuries over the past two years with Toronto, then Chicago. See following video.
Mrazek's three-year, $11.4 million contract expires at the end of this season. The Blackhawks have given no hint about signing him to an extension, although they've given new deals for forwards Nick Foligno and Jason Dickinson in the past week.
Would Mrazek, who turns 32 on Valentine's Day 2024, want to stay with a rebuilding Chicago club that figures to be led by Connor Bedard? With a chuckle, Mrazek addressed the possibility in the video.
Mrazek could be dealt by Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson to a contender before the March 8 trade deadline. But goalie prospects in Chicago's organization aren't ready to step in for the injury-depleted team.
