The Chicago Blackhawks made some moves on trade deadline day, but it is also noteworthy to look at the players that the team didn't trade. This includes Ryan Donato and Pat Maroon, both forwards whose names were out there.
There have been reports that Donato was working on an extension with the Blackhawks and the team would only trade him if they were blown away with an offer. That offer appears not to have come, so whether the team can get him signed soon or anytime before free agency, it will be a big win for Chicago.
There hasn't been anything out there that Maroon is going to re-sign, but I think there is a good chance now. If he's brought back on a one-year deal, it will keep someone who is a great teammate, locker room guy, depth piece, has toughness, as well as a player with experience and a winning pedigree. Even in a seller's market, Maroon likely wouldn't have gotten anything significant in a trade.
Maroon will keep his place on the fourth line for the remainder of the season and might have a new centerman in Joe Veleno, but Donato should continue to play and produce in the role he's played this season.
