The Chicago Blackhawks have added to their forward depth this off-season by bringing in players like Jordan Greenway and Cole Smith. However, when looking at their current group, it would not hurt for them to add at least one more forward to their top nine.

Blackhawks legend Patrick Kane is the best player still on the free agent market and would be awesome to see return to Chicago. Yet, even if they successfully bring Kane back, they also should consider adding another veteran forward to improve their depth: Michael Bunting. 

Bunting had a down year by his standards in 2025-26, posting 14 goals and 33 points in 74 games split between the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars. Yet, when looking at his resume, he is a prime candidate to bounce back. 

From 2021-22 to 2024-25, Bunting scored at least 19 goals each season. He also posted at least 49 points from 2021-22 to 2023-24, so he has shown during his career that he can provide solid secondary offensive production. With that, he could be worth taking a chance on with a one-year deal. 

Bunting would also not only have the potential to give Chicago more offense but would also provide them with more bite. The 6-foot forward is an effective agitator.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Blackhawks make a push for Bunting.
