Filip Roos Recalled from AHL Rockford. More ice time for 6-foot-8 Louis Crevier?

The Chicago Blackhawks placed defenseman Jarred Tinordi on injured reserve under concussion protocol on Monday, retroactive to Dec. 5, and recalled defenseman Filip Roos from Rockford of the AHL.

The team did not practice on Monday in Chicago before leaving for Edmonton where it will face the Oilers on Tuesday night.

On Sunday coach Luke Richardson had no update on a timeline for return of rookie defenseman Kevin Korchinski, who was placed on non-roster on Friday and left the team to attend to a family matter. The 19-year-old Korchinski has two goals and five assists in his first 25 NHL games, and is fifth among rookies in ice time per game, averaging 19:31 on 22.4 shifts.

Tinordi suffered his most recent injury in a 4-3 shootout loss to Nashville when he played 16 shifts. The rugged 31-year-old D-man missed nine games with an oblique injury earlier this season, and has an assist in 12 contests overall in 2023-24

The Blackhawks selected Tinordi off waivers from the New York Rangers in October 22 and he helped stabilize rebuilding Chicago's defense corps. General manager Kyle Davidson re-signed him in April 2023 with a one-year, $1.25 million contract.

Roos, a 6-foot-4 24-year-old Swede, has posted one goal and four assists in 16 games with Rockford this season. He got into 17 games with Chicago last year, posting one goal and two assists.

Tinordi's absence may create more ice time for Louis Crevier, a 6-foot-8, 22-year-old who's been paired with 6-foot-6 rookie rearguard Alex Vlasic. Crevier, a seventh-round draft pick, has played a solid stay-at-home role in four games so far and is a plus-2.
