Forward Taylor Hall, the 2017-18 Hart Trophy winner the Chicago Blackhawks acquired just before the 2023 NHL Draft, will miss Sunday's game at Florida with an apparent lower-body injury.
Coach Luke Richardson didn't confirm the diagnosis of Hall's injury, or one to forward Andreas Athanasiou that will sideline him as well on Sunday.
Richardson hinted that both Hall and Athanasiou might be able to recover this week in Chicago before the Blackhawks host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.
"We're just going to hope that we can get some more information when we get back home on them," Richardson said.
Hall was hurt late in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Lightning in Tampa in a collision with Michael Eyssimont along the boards and hobbled off the ice favoring one leg. The forward, who turns 32 on Tuesday, has missed four games already with a shoulder injury suffered on hit by Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo in Boston during the Blackhawks second game of the season.
Hall, the NHL's top overall draft pick in 2010, came to Chicago in a trade with Boston on June 26 to help provide a veteran presence to a rebuilding team. The Hawks then selected center Connor Bedard first overall in the 2023 draft on June 28.
Hall started the season as a left winger on Bedard's line. The solidly-built 6-1, 210-pound forward has two goals and two assists in eight games and has brought an energized style so far.
Chicago coach Luke Richardson said he never realized how hard and engaged Hall played before directing him for the first time this season.
The speedy Athanasiou also suffered a still-undisclosed injury Thursday in Tampa.
Jarred Tinordi, a rugged defenseman, was placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 9, with an oblique injury from the game against the Lightning. The Blackhawks recalled D-man Isaak Phillips from AHL Rockford to take his roster spot.
"(Hall and Athanasiou) might be be OK, a little bit sooner, so we might not have to use that (IR) route," Richardson said. "We have this week, which is good, so we don't have to make those decisions now."
Here are projected Blackhawks and defense pairings for Sunday, based on Saturday's practice in Sunrise, Florida.

The top trio of Nick Foligno, Bedard and Philipp Kurashev combined for two goals and seven assists on Thursday. Bedard was dominant, posting two goals and two assists in his first multi-point game in the NHL.
