Despite a few mistakes, Bedard certainly wasn't out of step in his NHL debut in Pittsburgh. But newcomers Nick Foligno and Corey Perry, along with goalie Petr Mrazek, backstopped a comeback.

Connor Bedard lost the opening faceoff against Sidney Crosby, the future Hall-of-Famer he's looked up to and been compared to.
"Tried to win it and I failed, miserably," Bedard said.

Then the Blackhawks rookie got caught out of position high in the Chicago zone in the second period. Crosby darted in behind him and scored at 11:56 to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead.
Yep, that learning curve Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson was talking about.
But led by veterans — starting with newcomer forwards Nick Foligno and Corey Perry — the Blackhawks stormed back from the deficit with four unanswered goals. Chicago stunned the Penguins 4-2 and turned Bedard's mostly upbeat debut into a team celebration.
And that's what the 18-year-old center will remember most.
"The winning for sure," Bedard said "I thought everyone played a really good game and it was fun to be a part of the win." See the video below for more.
Jason Dickinson's goal with 4:31 left in the third period snapped a 2-all tie and capped a crisp passing series with linemates Perry and Foligno. Then Foligno added an empty netter, set up by Perry and Dickinson, with 1:27 remaining to seal it.
Petr Mrazek, who has been bedeviled by a groin issues, was terrific in goal. The 31-year-old stopped 38 shots.
Rookie Cole Guttman, coming back from shoulder surgery, tied the game at 2 midway through the third.
Chicago acquired the rights to the 35-year-old Foligno with Taylor Hall from Boston two days before drafting Bedard on June 28. Perry, 38, came over from Tampa Bay on June 29. The Blackhawks signed both Foligno and Perry to one-year, $4 million contracts.

Bedard certainly was noticeable in his NHL debut, with some racy shifts and prime chances.
He got his first point, an assist on linemate Ryan Donato's goal with 4:43 left in the second period, that started Chicago's comeback.
Bedard fired off five shots, while attempting 11, and logged 21:29 of ice time. Only defenseman Seth Jones had more for Chicago at 24:42.
Kevin Korchinski, the Blackhawks top defenseman prospect, also was solid in his NHL debut at age 19... and played 19:19 minutes. He came out even on plus/minus, being on the ice for a goal for and goal against.
Korchinski and Bedard were teammates on Canada's gold medal WJC last January. Bedard talks about Korchinski (calling him Kev) in the video below.
NOTES: Bedard became the second youngest Blackhawks player to net a point in his first game; only Eddie Olczyk was younger.... Bedard lost 11 of 13 faceoffs.
