The 39-year-old forward got back in the Oilers lineup and made the most out of his opportunity to play like he can in the playoffs.

Former Chicago Blackhawks veteran forward Corey Perry got to experience the Stanley Cup Playoffs once again.
It didn't look like the 39-year-old forward would able to do that at the start of the 2023-24 season. He had signed with rebuilding Chicago. Then Perry's contract was terminated in November for violating team policies and he eventually joined the Edmonton Oilers.
Through his first 10 playoff games with Edmonton, Perry didn't make much of an impact and his minutes slid. Finally, in Game 7 of the second round against Vancouver he was a healthy scratch. Fortunately for Perry, this reset only lasted four games and he just got back into the lineup for a pivotal Game 4 against the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final on Wednesday.
Perry made his presence known in his first game back in the lineup. He went to the net and hung out around the crease, created a couple of chances, and helped get the ball rolling for the Oilers in the first period with an assist when the team went down 2-0.
Not only was Perry given a chance back in the lineup, Ryan McLeod was as well. These two were not put on the third or fourth lines either. They were Leon Draisaitl's wing on the second line.
Perry spoke postgame about the thought process and what he thought he needed to do after being given that opportunity to play again.
"When you do get pulled out of the lineup, it's a tough pill to swallow," he said. "But you put that aside and when you get your name called again you come in and just work hard...be hard on the puck and win your battles."
This former Stanley Cup winner knows what it takes and it showed. Perry finished with one assist (his first point of the playoffs), one shot, three hits, and a blocked shot in 13:20 of ice time. Since that lineup worked, don't expect the veteran to come out of the lineup for Game 5.
