Last night was a little ugly.

The Chicago Blackhawks dropped a 7-2 decision to the Minnesota Wild. The Wild suffocated them with 42 shots on net, while they only mustered 21.

Connor Bedard was one of the few bright spots from the game. He scored a powerplay goal on five shots while skating 22:02, the most of any Blackhawks forward.

Elsewhere in the hockey world, the Boston Bruins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1. The forward who scored the game-winning goal will be familiar to Blackhawks fans.

Tyler Johnson signed a PTO with the Bruins this past summer after spending three seasons with the Blackhawks. Injuries plagued his first year with the team, but he contributed 30+ points in each of his two years later.

In last night's pre-season game, Johnson was paired up with Trent Frederic and Justin Brazeau. More importantly, he saw time on the team's first powerplay unit.

While on the powerplay, he scored a spectacular one-timer. That marker would break the tie and stand as the game-winner.

Johnson would finish the game with the lone goal in 14:50 of time on the ice. He also fired three shots on the net and threw a single hit.

He has not earned a contract with the Bruins yet. However, a performance like last night only helps his cause. With only two games left of the pre-season, he must make hay while the sun shines to earn a spot on the Bruins.
