The Chicago Blackhawks have gotten off to a much better start than expected and they are hopeful to pull out of their rebuild sooner than later. Even if it isn't this season, general manager Kyle Davidson has done a very good job drafting, developing, and making the majority of right moves for the franchise.
On 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Freidman said, "It seems to me like we're heading in the direction of a Kyle Davidson extension."
Th Blackhawks' GM has drafted very well, hitting on plenty of picks, early and late in the drafts. While it's easier to draft players high in the draft or in the first round, many GM miss their marks with those player. Davidson drafted Kevin Korchinski, Frank Nazar, Sam Rinzel, Connor Bedard, Oliver Moore, Artyom Levshunov, Sasha Boisvert, Marek Vanacker, Anton Frondell, Vaclav Nestrasil, and Mason West in the first round over the past four years.
As for later picks he's hit on, that includes Ryan Greene, Roman Kantserov, Nick Lardis, and AJ Spellacy as standouts.
Davidson's moves over the last year-plus to subtly make the Blackhawks better have paid off so far this season and even last. Notable additions include Andre Burakovsky, Ilya Mikheyev, Tyler Bertuzzi, Teuvo Teravainen, and Spencer Knight, as well as holding onto Lukas Reichel for now.
Rebuilding takes time and the right moves at the right time for things to change around. The Blackhawks should have no doubt that Davidson is going to continue to deliver as he's done an excellent job so far. It's not long until Chicago returns to being a playoff team at this rate, and they are in a position to stay very competitive for a long time.
