The Chicago Blackhawks didn't make much noise in free agency or this offseason so far. All that happened was the swap of Joe Veleno for Andre Burakovsky, so they did upgrade their scoring depth. The team didn't land any of the big free agents that could really make a difference, but trades are still a possibility. According to The Fourth Period's summer trade board, these are two names that the Blackhawks are potential landing spots for.

    Rickard Rakell

Rickard Rakell would be a great score for any team that acquires him if it happens. It would also definitely signal a rebuild for the Pittsburgh Penguins. What would have to be given up is a fair bit considering Rakell scored 35 goals and 70 points last season and has three years left on his contract at $5 million AAV.

The Blackhawks are a team that wouldn't have to have the Penguins retain any cap on the contract, which would be more ideal for Pittsburgh. Chicago really needs the type of scoring that Rakell would provide, although I don't think he would reach 35 goals next season for a team like the Blackhawks. He would definitely play in the top-6 and jump the Blackhawks a little bit forward, but it would be giving up a fair bit for a player that the team would have to try to compete right away with or else it would feel like a waste in assets. Chicago is one of four teams listed as potential landing spots for Rakell along with the LA Kings, Ottawa Senators, and Seattle Kraken.

    Evan Rodrigues

Evan Rodrigues isn't the same level of player as Rakell and his career high is 19 goals and 43 points. He is solid defensively and will provide around 15 goals and 35-40 points. The veteran finished last season with 15 goals and 32 points, but has put up 15 points in back-to-back playoff runs for the Florida Panthers.

The reason why he might be moved is if the Panthers need some cap space. He is the only player with a decent cap hit that would realistically be moved considering he has one year left on his deal at $3 million AAV and the core is all locked in. While he is a good two-way forward and can play anywhere in the lineup, Rodrigues isn't used on the penalty kill. With how the Blackhawks are expected to have a lot of line shuffling next season to find the right combinations, Rodrigues could be a nice addition, play up and down the lineup. and be a good use of a future asset to acquire.
