Coach Luke Richardson hopes for a clearer picture on Bedard, out with broken jaw, later on Tuesday or Wednesday. Chicago gets two forwards back for game with Edmonton.

Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson didn't have an update on injured rookie Connor Bedard on Tuesday morning following the team's game-day skate.

Connor Bedard takes a faceoff against Jack Hughes in New Jersey on Friday.

But depleted Chicago will have forwards Taylor Raddysh and Joey Anderson back in the lineup when it takes on the Edmonton Oilers at 7:30 p.m. Newcomer Rem Pitlick, acquired from Pittsburgh on Saturday, also will play.

The 18-year-old Bedard, who leads all first-year NHLers with 15 goals and 33 points, suffered a broken jaw on an open-ice hit by Devils defenseman Brendan Smith in New Jersey on Friday.

"We'll know more, I think he's been seeing our guys (medical team),  Richardson said. "I haven't even seen him today. Hopefully tonight by game time or tomorrow."

Richardson also was waiting for a report on veteran forward Nick Foligno, who broke a finger on his left hand fighting Smith in the second period of the 4-2 loss to the Devils. See following video.

    Seth Jones Skates

Top defenseman Seth Jones, who suffered a shoulder injury on Dec. 10 versus Washington, was back on the ice for Tuesday's skate. The 6-foot-4 blueliner leads Chicago with an average of 25:25 of ice time per game.

Jones is close to returning, but needs full-contact practice sessions first, Richardson said.

"We want to get a practice in with some bumping," Richardson said. "But he should be, like within a week."

Raddysh, Anderson and Pitlick Provide Boost

Getting Raddysh and Anderson back, plus the arrival of Pitlick, gives Chicago some badly needed bodies up front. See Richardson in the following video.

Raddysh, one of the Blackhawks' two 20-goal scorers last season, missed five games with a groin injury. The winger has five goals and five assists in 35 contests in 2023-24.

"I feel ready to go," Raddysh said. "The trainers have done a great job with me and give myself the best chance to get back as quick as I can."

Raddysh said he felt a tweak skating in his first shift and Dallas on Dec. 29.

Anderson made an impact in 13 games after being called up from Rockford of the AHL on Nov. 24. The straight-line winger had five assists and was a plus 5 before sitting out the last 10 contests with a lower-body injury.

Pitlick had been playing for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL. The 26-year-old journeyman center has 21 goals and 33 assists in 123 NHL games with three teams.

"It definitely has been some up and down, but I've had some really good experiences and I think I'll take those things and learnings into now," Pitlick said. "I believe I'm ready for this opportunity."
