All eyes should be on Drew Commesso next season.

The Chicago Blackhawks made a move earlier this week, as they signed goalie Drew Commesso to a two-year contract. The young goaltender will have an $875,000 cap hit at the NHL level with his new deal.

Getting Commesso signed to his new contract is good news for the Blackhawks, as he is one of their promising goalie prospects. Now, he will be a prospect to keep a very close eye on during the 2026-27 season.

Commesso has the potential to become a solid NHL goalie in the future, and the Blackhawks will be hoping that he can take a step forward in his development next season.

The 23-year-old goaltender spent most of this past season in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs, where he posted a .901 save percentage and a 3.08 goals-against average in 37 games. This was after he had an 18-15-4 record, a .911 save percentage, a 2.54 goals-against average, and four shutouts in 39 games for Rockford during the 2024-25 season.

Yet, Commesso showed plenty of promise during his few chances with Chicago last season. In three games for the Original Six club in 2025-26, he had a 2-1-0 record, a 2.31 goals-against average, and a .918 save percentage. He also most notably recorded a 36-save shutout against the Nashville Predators on Jan. 10.

Now, Commesso will be looking to continue to improve after landing this multi-year contract from Chicago. If he starts the year on the right foot and has success with Rockford, it would not be surprising if he competes for the Blackhawks' backup job with Arvid Soderblom.
