Heading into the 2024 IIHF World Championship, Blackhawks linemates Connor Bedard and Philipp Kurashev joked they both wanted to score against Chicago goalie Petr Mrazek in the tournament.
Kurashev delivered against a Czech netminder on Monday, although it was Anaheim's Lukas Dostal and not Mrazek.
Kurashev fired in the eventual game winner in the third-round of a five-round shootout to give Switzerland a 2-1 win over Czechia in the tournament's prime-time evening game at Prague Arena.

Swiss and Los Angeles Kings forward Kevin Fiala had scored in the second round. Czechia's Matej Stransky replied immediately.
Then Kurashev, the next man up, beat Dostal. The 24-year-old forward slithered down the slot with quick stick-handling moves before snapping off a wrister that entered low on the glove side as Dostal dropped to the ice. https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2024/wm/gamecenter/video/54205/19-sui-vs-cze
Fiala and Stransky each had a goal in regulation as well, with Fiala scoring midway through the first and Stransky late in the second. The teams played through a scoreless third and a 5-minute overtime before heading to the shootout.
The IIHF shootout format runs five rounds rather than three in regular-season NHL games. In Monday's contest, three Czech and two Swiss shooters were stopped after Kurashev connected, so his goal gave Switzerland and 2-1 advantage in the tiebreaker — and the win.
