The 21-year-old Slaggert, who led Notre Dame with 20 goals a senior in 2023-24, hit the scoresheet as an NHLer in his sixth game with Chicago.
Former Notre Dame star Landon Slaggert clicked on a line with Jason Dickinson and Joey Anderson in Chicago's 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
Slaggert, skating in his sixth game since signing from the Irish two weeks ago, recorded his first NHL points. He picked up a pair of secondary assists on Dickinson's 19th and 20th goals as he took the place of injured Colin Blackwell with the forward trio.
Slaggert narrowly missed scoring himself, twice.
"I was hoping for it, but I guess it just wasn't in the cards tonight," Slaggert said. "I thought we created a lot of offense tonight." See video.
Slaggert fired toward an empty net after Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom mishandled the puck late in the second period, but the shot was blocked by defenseman MacKenzie Weegar.
The rookie hit the crossbar with a shot off a break with Anderson just over seven minutes into the third. With Markstrom down, Slaggert's point-blank attempt clanked of the pipe and downward, landing only inches from the goal line.
Slaggert and the Blackhawks started to celebrate, but a video review showed the puck didn't enter the net.
"Honestly, I couldn't tell you what was going through my mind," Slaggert said. "I thought it went in, but then I turned around, the spotlight came on. I think there was definitely some confusion for a second there.
"I guess I have to wait a little longer for it."
Slaggert, from South Bend, Indiana, had a group of family and friends in attendance at the United Center. He was drafted by the Blackhawks in the third round, 79th overall, in 2020.
