Goal didn't matter in game, but grab the puck for rookie from South Bend, Indiana.
Former Notre Dame star Landon Slaggert scored his first pro and NHL goal with the Chicago Blackhawks in a 5-2 loss to the Blues on Wednesday night.
The game was out of reach early for Chicago after the Blues scored on their first four shots in the first period. But Slaggert, who signed with the Blackhawks on March 10, connected with 3:09 left in the game to cap a nifty move on St. Louis goalie Joel Hofer.
After taking a pass from Ryan Donato, Slaggert danced in from right wing and cut across the slot. The 21-year old native of South Bend, Indiana potted his first goal in his 12th NHL game after debuting on March 15 against Los Angeles.
Slaggert entered with two assists. See his comments in the following video.
The Blackhawks signed Slaggert to a two-year, entry-level contract that runs through the 2024-25 season ($912,500 salary cap hit) after Michigan eliminated the Irish from the Big Ten Hockey Tournament last month.
Slaggert skated in 36 games with Notre Dame during the 2023-24 campaign. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native forward was selected by the Blackhawks in the third round, 79th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft.
