Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast revealed that with Joe Sakic taking the position as General Manager for now, he thinks that Andrew Cogliano has a chance at filling that position when the Avalanche want to fill that position out.

He does clarify that if Cogliano wants to pursue the position, he surely thinks he will get a chance to do so at some point, and if Sakic seems to lean on him if he does apply for the role, given his experience playing with the team and his current role as the Special Assistant to the General Manager.

From the Colorado Avalanche website, his role as the Special Assistant to the General Manager is "player development, professional and amateur scouting, as well as working with the American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles."
