The trade deadline was a massive turning point for the Avalanche. Multiple names were connected to the Avalanche. Only two trades turned out with Nicolas Roy and a last-minute Nazem Kadri trade, but there was a lot of buzz around a Ryan O'Reilly reunion, and it obviously didn't occur.
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Avalanche did check in on Nashville's status regarding O'Reilly and the price to acquire him.
Now the price will probably never be released, and from the reporting, it must have been pretty high that the Avs just didn't either want to pay or use that package, or less, and pivot to Kadri.
Though it also begs the question, how "high" was O'Rielly up in their trade list? Who did they want to acquire first? Was this before or after they acquired Roy, or was this after Calgary shut down their first pitch to acquire Kadri?
