Coming off a great homestand that saw them take Game 1 in a 4-3 overtime win and a massive 7-0 blowout win in Game 2, the Colorado Avalanche were shown that it wouldn't be easy against the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning, as they would go on to lose 6-2 in Game 3.
It wasn't a great start, as the Avalanche would be down 2-1 after the first period, but it would be the second period when everything would unravel. The Lightning would score four goals in the period to take Game 2.
The period also saw seven penalties, four on the Lightning and three on the Avalanche; both teams converted on one of them. The entire game as a whole finished with 18 total penalties, with Pat Maroon and Andrew Cogliano getting 10-minute game misconducts.
