Head Coach Jared Bednar said that after Saturday's game, there were concrete plans to have Wedgewood start at some point this week. Clearly, this isn't the situation Bednar imagined seeing his new goalie in action for the first time.
Georgiev saw seven shots in the first 12 minutes of the game against the Buffalo Sabres and allowed four goals. After the fourth goal, courtesy of Beck Malenstyn, Georgiev was pulled to the bench, and Wedgewood came in as relief.
Wedgewood was 1-2-1 in four starts with the Nashville Predators. He held an SV% of .878 and a GAA of 3.69. He's had eight seasons of NHL experience, giving the Avalanche a backup goaltender with more experience than former backup Justus Annunen, who was dealt to Nashville in return for Wedgewood.
