The Avalanche take their 2-0 start on the road Wednesday night, facing their first test away from Ball Arena against the Winnipeg Jets.

The Colorado Avalanche couldn’t have asked for a better start. Two games, two wins, 14 goals and a pair of statement performances at Ball Arena.

Now comes the first real test away from home.

The Avalanche head to Winnipeg on Wednesday night for their first road game of the 2026-27 season, carrying a 2-0 record into a matchup with a Jets team that has also started strong at 2-0-1.

Winnipeg has managed that start without star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who is holding out after requesting a trade in the offseason. Kyle Connor and Cole Perfetti have led the way offensively, with each entering the game with five points. Connor has three goals and two assists, while Perfetti has two goals and three assists.

The Jets will turn to Stuart Skinner in net. Skinner is 4-2-2 against Colorado in his career, posting a 3.37 goals-against average and .897 save percentage across nine appearances.

Mackenzie Blackwood will get the start for Colorado. Blackwood is 5-5-2 against Winnipeg with a 2.74 goals-against average and .898 save percentage in 14 career appearances.

Nathan MacKinnon has enjoyed facing Winnipeg throughout his career, recording 44 points in 47 regular-season games against the Jets. Cale Makar has 10 points in 18 regular-season meetings, along with nine points in five postseason matchups.

The bigger storyline, though, may be how Colorado has approached this season after last year’s disappointing ending.

Following a strong regular season, the Avalanche fell short in the playoffs, something Jared Bednar said the team had to address before moving forward.

“We talked a little bit about last year and decided to turn the page,” Bednar said. “We have two choices: dwell on last year, or strap the boots on and get back to work. I think our guys have done that.”

So far, the results suggest they have.

Bednar also admitted he liked the shorter training camp, particularly with an experienced core that already knows how it wants to play.

“Our guys wanted to review what we’re doing, get brushed up on all the details, get some reps, and then play for real,” he said. “I think they were excited about it.”

One lineup change is expected, with Zachary L’Heureux set to make his season debut after recovering from a lower-body injury. Logan O’Connor could potentially return against Calgary.

Puck drop is set for 6:30 p.m. MT.
