As it's still early in the season, the Avalanche continue to fine-tune their game in order to play a full 60 minutes of competitive hockey.

All good things come to an end — and for the Colorado Avalanche, it did so with a shutout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night at PPG Paints Arena.

Pens goalie Tristan Jarry played an outstanding game keeping the Avalanche's elite shooters and depth scorers from getting a puck past him.

The Avalanche were unable to find their groove and in turn, resulted in the team's first loss of the season. The Pens had more energy and showed dominance over a deep team that struggled to find some chemistry.

"It just seemed like we were very, very off-sync. Didn't have our legs the whole night. It's gonna happen some days we just have to be able to find that groove," Cale Makar said after the loss. "If everybody's off, we need at last a few guys to get back on track and maybe that'll help pick guys back up."

While Alexandar Georgiev allowed four goals on 29 shots, head coach Jared Bednar was not disappointed with his performance.

"I have no problem really with the way he played. The last one sneaks through in a crowd," Bednar said. "But the goals they scored there, they probably earned a couple more that Gorgie (Georgiev) was there for to stop."

The Avs play the Buffalo Sabres next in a Sunday afternoon matchup at KeyBank Center. The puck drops at 11 a.m. MT.
