This Avalanche forward is being viewed as one of the best additions of this year's deadline.
The Colorado Avalanche made a major move at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, trading Bowen Byram to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Casey Mittelstadt. Parting ways with a young and promising defender was difficult for Colorado, but they had a major need at the second-line center position. So far, Mittelstadt has provided them exactly what they needed.
Mittelstadt, 25, has fit in beautifully in the Avalanche's top six thus far. In 14 games since joining the club, he has four goals and nine points. That's solid production, and he certainly should produce even more frequently once he becomes more adjusted to his new club.
Due to Mittelstadt's immediate impact, he is garnering some notable praise. In a recent article for NHL.com, Tracey Myers argued that Mittelstadt is the best trade acquisition from the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Myers noted that Mittelstadt's impact on the power play and as the club's 2C as the main reasons for it.
The NHL saw many notable players get moved at the deadline, including Jake Guentzel, Noah Hanifin, Tyler Toffoli, Sean Monahan, Michael Bunting, and Anthony Duclair. As a result, it is pretty significant that Myers views Mittelstadt in such a respectful manner.
We will need to see how Mittelstadt performs during the final games of the regular season and then playoffs from here.
