Cale Makar is continuing to build on his excellent career.

Cale Makar is continuing to build on his excellent career.

The Colorado Avalanche got their postseason started on Sunday evening against the Winnipeg Jets. As expected, it has been an eventful contest.

Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar has made an impact, as he recorded an assist on Nathan MacKinnon's first-period goal. With it, he has made it into the Avalanche's history book.

With this assist, Makar now has the most career playoff points (66) by an Avalanche defenseman, passing former Avalanche star defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh.

Makar also became the third-fastest defenseman to record 50 career postseason assists in NHL history. It took the superstar defenseman only 62 games to reach this feat.

So, which two NHL defensemen hit 50 playoff assists quicker than Makar? Al MacInnis (61 games) and Bobby Orr (59 games). He also achieved this faster than legends like Brian Leetch, Paul Coffey, and Ray Bourque.

Seeing Makar set an Avalanche team record and hit 50 playoff assists almost as quickly as two Hall of Fame defensemen, Orr and MacInnis, is simply remarkable. It paints a picture of how outstanding a player Makar is, and what's even better about it is that he still has several years left in his prime.
