The 25-year-old defenseman won the accolade in 2021-22.

Cale Makar got the nod for the Norris Trophy from the NHL for the fourth consecutive year — which is not a surprise to anyone.
Makar posted 90 points in 77 games, which averages out to 1.17 points-per-game, the third-highest average by a defenseman over the past 30 seasons (minimum: 50 GP), according to the NHL. He became the second-fastest blueliner in league history to collect 300 points in his 280th game on Jan. 20 — Bobby Orr did it in his 279th game.
The Calgary, Alberta native ranked second in the league among this season's defenseman in goals (21), assists (69) and points (90). He finished first in power-play points for D-men with 39, and tied for the No. 1 spot in shorthanded points with four. He landed in second place for power-play assists (32), third for shots on goal (231) and takeaways (70), and tied for the third spot in power-play goals (7).
With an average time on ice of 24:46, Makar set single-season Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche franchise records for assists and points by a defenseman.
The 25-year-old is up against Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes and the Nashville Predators' Roman Josi.
Hughes — an Orlando, Florida native — is the first Canucks player in history to be voted as a finalist for the Norris Trophy. If he wins the trophy, he would become the fourth U.S.-born player to earn it, joining Chris Chelios, Brian Leetch and Adam Fox.
It is Josi's third time getting nominated for the award — he won it in 2019-20. He is the oldest finalist at age 33 since Mark Giordano (age 35 with the Calgary Flames) and Brent Burns (age 34 with the San Jose Sharks).
