The Avalanche have signed one of their top prospects.

The Colorado Avalanche made a notable move on Friday, signing defenseman Sean Behrens to a three-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2024-25 season, and he will finish this campaign with the Colorado Eagles on an amateur tryout.

Behrens, 21, was selected by the Avalanche with the 61st overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has emerged as one of the club's top prospects.

Behrens has spent each of the last three seasons with the University of Denver. In 112 games with the university, he posted 10 goals and 81 points. The 2023-24 campaign was his best year with the school, however, as he recorded new career highs with four goals, 27 assists, and 31 points.

Over his three-year stint with the University of Denver, Behrens collected many accolades. During the 2021-22 season, he was selected to the NCHC All-Rookie Team. After blocking 70 shots this season for Denver, he was named the NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year. He also won two National Championships with Denver (2022 & 2024). That's a strong resume.

After an immensely successful collegiate career, the Avalanche must be ecstatic that Behrens is turning pro. The Illinois native has all the tools to blossom into an impactful two-way defenseman in the NHL in the near future. He displayed how steady he is defensively with Denver, but he also has the speed and passing skills to make an impact offensively.
