The former Avalanche forward is facing another uncertain chapter after the Rangers placed him on waivers, potentially sending him back to the AHL.
Anton Blidh’s time with the Colorado Avalanche ended with a trade to the New York Rangers in 2023. Now, more than three years later, the veteran forward could be headed back to the AHL after the Rangers placed him on waivers Friday.
Blidh originally joined Colorado as a free agent in August 2022, signing a one-year, two-way contract after spending the previous seasons with the Boston Bruins. He made a strong enough impression during training camp and the preseason to earn a spot on the Avalanche’s opening-night roster for the 2022-23 season.
His first season in Colorado, however, was a bit of a stop-and-start affair.
After serving as a healthy scratch, Blidh was assigned to the Colorado Eagles to begin the season. He was shortly recalled by the Avalanche and made his NHL debut on Oct. 19, 2022, against the Winnipeg Jets.
Blidh went scoreless in 14 games with Colorado before returning to the Eagles, where he spent the majority of his time during the 2022-23 season.
His tenure with the Avalanche eventually came to an end at the trade deadline.
On March 3, 2023, Colorado traded Blidh to the Rangers in exchange for Swedish forward Gustav Rydahl. Blidh was assigned directly to Hartford, where he immediately found more offensive opportunities.
He scored seven goals and 11 points in 17 regular-season games with the Wolf Pack following the trade. Blidh also added seven points in nine playoff appearances, finishing third on Hartford in postseason scoring.
Blidh remained in the Rangers organization after the trade, continuing to move between Hartford and New York.
During the 2025-26 season, the 31-year-old recorded eight goals, 16 points and 56 penalty minutes in 64 regular-season games with Hartford. He also appeared in four games with the Rangers, recording one assist.
Now, Blidh is back on waivers.
If he goes unclaimed, he is expected to report to the Hartford Wolfpack.
