Colorado played a solid 60 minutes and Alexandar Georgiev was stellar in net to earn his second shutout of the season.

The Colorado Avalanche came into Wednesday's matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights looking to repeat their previous game's success — and they did with a shutout win. 

First period

Vegas came out of the gate with a bit more energy as the Avalanche didn't have a shot on goal almost half way through the period. 

Colorado gained intensity, created more scoring chances and spent the last minute in front of Vegas goalie Jiri Patera. 

Zach Whitecloud got called for tripping Valeri Nichushkin with 23.2 seconds left in the period, and Nichushkin responded by putting one in the back of the net less than 10 seconds later.

Alexandar Georgiev was sharp stopping 11 shots on goal, while the Avs racked up 10. The period ended Avs 1 - Golden Knights 0. 

Second period  

Nichushkin netted his second of the night on a short backhand pass from Mikko Rantanen to put the Avs up by two. 

Nathan MacKinnon earned the assist on the goal which tied him with Joe Sakic for the franchise's longest home point streak record at 23 games. 

Colorado more than doubled the shots on goal, 14, to Vegas' six. 

Third period

Although the Avalanche didn't get on the scoresheet during the one power play in the period, it wasn't from lack of effort. The top unit peppered Patera with shots 

Logan O'Connor ripped one right up the middle which hit Nicolas Hague's stick and popped over Patera's glove side at 10:40 in the third. 

Georgiev stopped nine shots — not allowing a goal — to earn his second shutout this season and 15th of his career.
