Legendary seasons are hard to come by, especially when looking at this last season for a certain Pacific Division team in the AHL.
Head Coach Aaron Schneekloth led the 2024-25 Colorado Eagles on a run so incredible, some might call it romantic. In his second season at the helm, he coached his team to its first division title as an AHL team.
Not only that, but he and his team had the pleasure of hosting Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog in his first professional game since a tumultuous injury dating back to 2022.
"Physically, I feel great," Gabriel Landeskog Ends Successful Weekend Series with a Goal and Assist
Loveland, Colo. - After 1,020 days of rehabilitation and constant mental preparation, Gabriel Landeskog returned to the ice for a professional hockey game.
That's about as legendary as it gets, and now he might be rewarded for the hard work that he's put in with a coaching job in the big leagues.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman suggested in Sunday's edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast that Schneekloth will join the Seattle Kraken staff as an assistant coach.
"I think one of [the assistant coaches] will be Aaron Schneekloth, who was the coach of the AHL's Colorado Eagles this year. He is a Calgarian, south of where I am currently located in Edmonton. So, I've heard that he's gonna be one of the people joining the staff there."- Friedman from 32TP on the Kraken's assistant coaching vacancies.
The only remaining coach on the staff after this past season is Jessica Campbell, who made history as the first female coach behind an NHL team's bench. The club recently hired Lane Lambert on as their head coach on June 9th, replacing Dan Bylsma after his first and only year in the Kraken's HC role.
This move may be an interesting one, considering the Avalanche front office is still searching to fill their assistant coaching vacancy after they relieved Ray Bennett of his duties. Bennett coached the Avalanche's power play units and was promptly relieved from his position as assistant coach following the team's poor performance on the man-advantage during their round 1 series against the Dallas Stars in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Assuming an announcement is coming in the next week or two, the Colorado Eagles will be on the search for their newest head coach immediately. Whether the organization plans to prioritize internal candidates is unknown at this time.
Regardless of who it may be, there are big shoes to fill following what has been the best season to date for the Eagles as a team.
