Colorado has not been very successful in other buildings this season but that changed with its last road trip.
The Colorado Avalanche completed one of their most successful road trips this season but it was not a happy accident. There were a few factors involved, including a change of personnel.
"The depth of our team up front has made a big difference, in all those guys filling different roles," head coach Jared Bednar said after practice on Thursday. "We just have more depth in almost every aspect of our game — whether it's penalty kill, we're rolling six, seven guys out instead of four."
The team's shift in attitude was another reason it earned eight points against tough teams in the West. The Avs only have four more road games in the regular season but the improvement is imperative ahead of the playoffs.
"Focus, determination on the road looked a lot more like our home team, you know, on this road trip. That's what it is," Bednar said. "I think it takes a little extra. We've talked to our guys about it — it takes a little extra on the road. The jump, enthusiasm, energy, just takes more on the road to win and we're probably, as a team like going through the season, we're probably just a little bit less than we are at home."
The Avalanche are back at Ball Arena for the next five games and look to continue their winning momentum at home.
