Newly acquired Avalanche forward heating up

The Colorado Avalanche acquired an old teammate of Nathan MacKinnon in the off-season - and it's paying off.

The Colorado Avalanche keep on winning. Last night they won a 5-4 nail-biting event against the Dallas Stars. Nathan MacKinnon scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway in overtime.

MacKinnon remains on a ridiculous scoring pace of 1.64 points per game on the year. He has eight points in his last three games — including two game-winning overtime goals.

He has also found himself reunited with an old teammate of his in Jonathan Drouin. Drouin and MacKinnon played together for the Halifax Mooseheads.

Although they were drafted in the same year (2013), their careers have followed wildly different trajectories. That's all in the past, as the two are finding chemistry again.

Drouin seems to be rediscovering his scoring touch. He has 12 points in his last 11 games. He has 20 points in 37 games. 

He's been effective on the power play, gathering seven points playing on the first unit with MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Valeri Nichushkin. That's a far cry from his career high of 26, but it's a step in the right direction given how much of a let down his last few seasons in Montreal were.

With six points in his last five games, it's tough to imagine a scenario where Jared Bednar decides to break them up. Until then, I'd expect both players to continue producing how they presently are.
