    The Avalanche's second Colorado-born draftee is staying with the team for another year.

    Defenseman Nate Clurman agreed to a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club for the 2023-24 season.

    The 25-year-old spent the majority of the 2022-23 season with the Colorado Eagles where he earned 15 points in 57 games. Clurman ranked second among d-men on the Eagles with a plus-11 rating and played in his first playoff game in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

    The 6-foot-2, 205-pound blueliner was drafted 161st overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Avs. He was born in Boulder and became the second Colorado-born player to be drafted by the Avalanche. J.D. Corbin, who is from Littleton, was the first Colorado-born player drafted by the Avs in 2004.

    Clurman played college hockey for the University of Notre Dame where he totaled 19 points and a plus-10 rating in 103 games. He served as team captain his junior year and helped the Fighting Irish reach the NCAA Tournament all three seasons he played.

    Clurman played for three teams in the United States Hockey League from 2016-18: Tri-City Storm, Des Moines Buccaneers and Sioux City Musketeers. He scored 13 points in 59 contests.

    He played high school hockey at Culver Military Academy in Indiana from 2013-17 where he earned 103 points in 165 games.

    As a kid, Clurman played with the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders hockey program and was also on the team that represented the Colorado Avalanche at the 2011 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.
