The Avalanche's young defenseman had only one assist in the 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames but still managed to make the history books.

Colorado's 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames Saturday night wasn't just two points for the team — it was a plethora of milestones for defenseman Cale Makar.

According to the NHL, the 25-year-old's one assist in the game tied or set a new record in some franchise lists as well as league lists.

    * Makar (20 GP) became the fastest defenseman in franchise history to record 30 points in a season, besting Jeff Brown (24 GP in 1988-89 w/ the Quebec Nordiques).

    * Makar (20 GP) joined Quinn Hughes (19) as the second defenseman this season to have 30-plus points at their 20-game mark. The only other campaign in NHL history to feature two blueliners hit 30 points in 20 or fewer games was 1987-88 (Doug Wilson and Paul Coffey).

    * Makar matched the franchise record for points in a calendar month by a defenseman, boosting his totals to 2-19—21 in November 2023 (12 GP) to equal a mark set by Steve Duchesne with the Nordiques in November 1992 (4-17—21 in 15 GP) and tied previously by Makar himself in March 2023 (4-17—21 in 13 GP).

    * Makar notched his 19th assist this month, the most by a defenseman in a single November in NHL history (besting Ray Bourque who had 18 in November 1984).

    * Makar (258 GP) notched his 276th career point to surpass John-Michael Liles (523 GP) for sole possession of second place in franchise history among defensemen – requiring less than half of Liles’ game count to do so.

Makar will continue to set records and achieve milestones — which seems to be on a regular basis in his young career.
