Crazy game end in a CBJ win

20:00 - The Wild take the ice in their very nice green and yellow alternate uniforms. And we get Wes McCauley.

16:12 - Lots of back-and-forth action so far. The Jackets have had a few chances in close on Gustavsson but can't get anything in. Elvis hasn't been tested much so far. 

14:45 - Gustavsson gets away with playing it outside of the trapezoid, the refs missed that one.

12:40 - Elvis makes a couple of big saves to keep it scoreless.

11:05- Justin Danforth scores to make it 1-0. He collected his rebound and put it in the net. David Jiricek with some hustle to make that goal happen. Jiricek and Olivier get the assists. 

8:00 - The back-and-forth action is still ongoing. The Jackets seem to be controlling the pace, however. The Jackets have won 80% of the faceoffs thus far. 

5:54 - Rookie David Jiricek goes to the box for hooking, setting the Wild up for their first powerplay of the game. Jiricek lifted the Wild player's stick and got called for hooking...

4:59 - Calen Addison heads to the box for holding Boone Jenner. It'll be 4 on 4 until Jiricek comes out and gives the CBJ a short PP.

2:58 - Both teams are at full strength. 

1:55 - Elvis makes a huge save to keep the Wild scoreless.

End of the 1st Period - CBJ 1, Wild 0 - Shots CBJ 11, Wild 10

2nd Period

18:20 - Huge save by Elvis on Marco Rossi, who had a quick breakaway.

17:47 - Adam Fantilli just misses a goal....not once but twice. The first one trickled past the net. The second one beat the Wild goaltender but rang off the post. Both happened about 10 seconds apart.

15:00 - Shots are 16-11 in favor of the CBJ. The Jackets continue to push the pace of play. 

13:50 - Sillinger wins the faceoff, and kicks it back to Kent Johnson who rips it past Gustavsson. 2-0 CBJ.

12:39 - Dakota Mermis shoots it through 8 different players to beat Elvis. Not sure Elvis ever saw the puck. 2-1 CBJ. 

11:45 - The Wild score again. Mats Zuccarello scores to make it 2-2. They're shelling the Jackets all of a sudden. 

9:42 - The Jackets will get a powerplay for goalie interference. Pat Maroon to the box. 

7:42 - The Wild kill off the Jackets powerplay. 

6:00 - The Jackets are outshooting the Wild 18-5, but the Wild are winning the period 2-1.

3:53 - Damon Severson heads to the penalty box for hooking. 

1:53 - The Jackets kill off the Wild PP. The Wild were held shotless on that PP.

End of the 2nd Period - CBJ 2, Wild 2 - Shots CBJ 34, Wild 16

3rd Period

17:00 - The Wild have been peppering Elvis Merzlikins in the early stages of the third. 

15:18 - The Wild take the lead. Brodin puts one past Elvis. 3-2 Wild

15:00 - The Jackets seemed to have control of this game for the first two periods, but somehow they're losing. 

12:24 - Captain Boone Jenner ties it up at 3. His 4th of the season, assisted by Werenski and Severson.

10:30 - Shots are 42-20 in favor of the CBJ.

8:58 - The ice is tilted in Minnesota's direction. Boone Jenner to the box and that will give the Wild a chance to take the lead on a PP.

8:06 - Mats Zuccarello scores again to make it 4-3. The CBJ has challenged the goal for offside. And it's no goal. The Wild were offside.

6:56 - The Jackets kill off the Wild PP, and then promptly get their own. Eriksson Ek to the box. 

5:19 - Adam Fantilli gets his first NHL goal. A powerplay goal from Ivan Provorov and Justin Danforth. 

4:00 - The Jackets are outshooting the Wild 50-24.

2:59 - The Wild score to tie the game at 4. Marcus Johansson scored the goal. 

2:00 - The CBJ are dominating in shots, faceoffs, and blocked shots, but the game is tied. 

End of Regulation - CBJ 4, Wild 4 - Shots CBJ 50, Wild 26

Jack Roslovic split the Wild defense and blasted one past Gustavsson to win. 5-4 CBJ win. What an effort by Roslovic. 

Reactions

  • Adam Fantilli scored his 1st NHL goal. Now he should feel a lot more comfortable.
  • The Jackets peppered Wild goalie Gustavsson with shots, spraying 50 at him in regulation, finishing with 54. 
  • The Jackets were 1/3 on the PP, with Fantilli scoring the goal.
  • Jack Roslovic has had two games straight of good play. Everyone is hoping he can stay consistent. 
  • Cole Sillinger won 81.8% of his faceoffs. 
  • Justin Danforth continues his hot play, scoring another goal on Saturday night. He has 3 goals and 4 points through 5 games.
  • The average distance of the 54 CBJ shots was 33.6 feet. That's about 12 feet closer than in the Flames game.

The Blue Jackets are back at home next Tuesday to take on the Anaheim Ducks and rookie Leo Carlsson.
